Live.com and AWStats

Updated on March 12, 2007 : AWStats version 6.6 has built in support for Live.com. The patch described below is meant for use with AWStats version 6.5 or earlier releases.

MSN Search replaced by Live.com

Since the official release of Live Search (Live.com) earlier this month (September 2006), Microsoft has replaced its MSN Search engine by the new Live Search.

All queries to MSN Search are redirected to the new search engine. Consequently, these queries have disappeared from the regular AWStats reports, as AWStats is not aware of the new search engine.

Here are instructions to add support for Live Search in AWStats.

search_engines.pm

The search_engines.pm file in the AWStats lib directory contains the description of the various search engines supported by AWStats. To add support for Live Search, edit the file as follows :

1. Locate this line (line 47 in AWStats 6.5) :

'msn\.',

Replace it by:

'msn\.',
'search\.live\.com',

2. Locate this line (line 158) :

'msn\.','msn',

Replace it by:

'msn\.','msn',
'search\.live\.com', 'live',

3. Locate this line (line 321) :

'msn','q=',

Replace it by:

'msn','q=',
'live', 'q=',

4. Locate this line (line 438) :

'msn','MSN',

Replace it by:

'msn','MSN',
'live', 'Live Search',

Your modified version of search_engines.pm is now ready to support Live Search.

Is there a way to combine both msn and live and show them as one?

  2. Jean-Luc says:

The AWStats extra section 3 that we present in our page about Keywords by Search Engine creates a report combining both MSN and Live results.
