hi all, i amd using Awstats 6.8, for geting the exactitude visitors' counts numbers, i add the rule which in Awstats's configure file's item "SkipFiles". then i run the perl script to update, and i get the results uniques IP is going down, and vistors,pageviews are also as the same going down. i manually count the log file with a shell, but i get the a lot of list IPs has been skipped because of my "SkipFiles"'s rule. does any body help me that how to add this dropped IPs into the Awstats count results? 
explain: my added SkipFiles are the pages which embed the webpages' iframe. these pages are not individual pages, generally they are included in the web pages which the Awstats will count them. but unfortunately, they just be dropped directly. 
i read the Awstats's Database file, and found that which i skipped pages's recording their pages count are 0, 
like this:

and before i added the SkipFiles rule, they above ips are counted by Awstats in uniques and vistors. 
i read the Awstats's document, which wrote about uniques and vistors were:

Unique Visitor: 
A unique visitor is a host that has made at least 1 hit on 1 page of your web site during the current period shown by the report. If this host make several visits during this period, it is counted only once. 
The period shown by AWStats reports is by default the current month. 
However if you use AWStats as a CGI you can click on the “year” link to have a report for all the year. In a such report, period is full year, so Unique Visitors are number of hosts that have made at least 1 hit on 1 page of your web site during those year. 
 
Visits: 
Number of visits made by all visitors. 
Think “session” here, say a unique IP accesses a page, and then requests three others without an hour between any of the requests, all of the “pages” are included in the visit, therefore you should expect multiple pages per visit and multiple visits per unique visitor (assuming that some of the unique IPs are logged with more than an hour between requests)

Hi,

What is the extension of your iframes ?

If the extension (= file name extension) is a page extension, the iframes will be counted as pages and their visits are counted as well; if they are not page extension, the iframes are only counted as hits and they are not used for the count of visits.

how go on with this ? if i wanna count these iframe's vistors IPs, should i rewrite my SkipFiles rule? could you give me a example for this ?

Oops, I think that I misunderstood you. I understand now that you want to exclude the iframes from the stats and that you do that with SkipFiles. That should be fine, as long as you do not exclude the hits on the main pages with SkipFiles. Do you see the main pages in the "Pages-URL" section of the AWStats report ?

When a raw of the log file meets the condition specified in SkipFiles, everything in AWStats happens as if this raw did not exist in the log file.

 my purpose is that  using this SkipFiles rule to filter these pages' flux,  i wanna know that if i could achieve it like this : filter the  pageviews of these  iframe's pages,but keep their flux of vistors and uniques.  does it come true?

  i have see the section of "Pages-URL", it 's work prefectly.

  sorry for my poor english, could you understand my point?

You cannot configure SkipFiles to reject some iframes and count the visits of these same iframes, ut this should not be a major issue. In my understanding, when a typical visitor visits one of your iframes, he also visits the main page where the iframe is located. If your SkipFiles only excludes the iframes, while it accepts the main pages, your count of visitors should be correct.

i understand that as same as you. but there is a strange things that my apache log file does not content the main page where the iframe is located. for example, when i filter with:

  • /b2b/mps/my/screen/myfolder,message,message_online.html
  • /b2b/mps/user/screen/checkLogin.html
  • /b2b/mps/my/screen/search.html
  • /b2b/domainProxy.html

i compared that Awstats's count number. i create tow config files, the one content SkipFiles and another one does not content SkipFiles. then i cat the awstats datafiles,find that before i added SkipFiles rule,some IPs are counted by Awstats, such as 116.21.225.165,this IP address is counted by Awstats when i do not add the SkipFiles rule, after i add the SkipFiles rule, this IP address are not counted by Awstats. i search the apache log file ,found this IP address 's log like this:

for above logs ,this IP addres did not get a main page but iframe pages.

only one item get a page, it is :

before i add SkipFiles,this IP address was counted by Awstats as unique and one visitor. but after i add SkipFiles this IP address does not count anymore.

  please help me.. thanks a lot .

Thanks for your Christmas wishes. ;-)

If the main page is not present in the log file, this is not an AWStats issue. I am not sure why this happens, but it coud come from users coming to your web site through a proxy or another device caching the main pages. You may also ask your hosting company if they know why this happens.

I did not understand why you put the link to a Baidu search at the end of your message. Sorry.

sorry for late to reply , in a few days ago, i was very sick.

 i have found out this problem, as you say, some log did not included the log fils which Aswstats analysed.

 but there are some problems remain:

1, i found some IPs were not counted by Awstats, and i analysed the logfile, found that they have accessed correctly, for example:

  116.217.10.15 – - [17/Dec/2008:14:54:34 +0800] "GET /home/html/category/p_31.shtml HTTP/1.1" 200 54882 "http://china.makepolo.com/" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1)"

  like this IP , awstats didnot count it , and i view the awstats' datafile,and in the unique visistors part of awstats did not find this IP's record. how did it happened?

2, does the Awstats will consider some visit as craws? if it found one ip access record,by its reference part form like this:
