I have about 6 months of IIS6 log files that need to be processed with AWStats but are in the following format:

#Fields: date time s-sitename s-ip cs-method cs-uri-stem cs-uri-query s-port cs-username c-ip cs(User-Agent) sc-status sc-substatus sc-win32-status

AWStats gives an error saying that required field %bytesd is missing.

How can I “trick” AWStats into thinking the sc-bytes field is available? I've tried renaming sc-win32-status to sc-bytes, but AWStats drops all of the records.

Or is there a better approach to accomplish this?

Try this log format definition:

LogFormat=”%time2 %other %other %method %url %query %other %logname %host %ua %code %other %bytesd”

You will get the AWStats reports, but figures about bandwidth and number of bytes will be wrong. The other data in the report will be valid.
