hi gang,

 

does anyone have a good way to create a report that shows user agent by operating system?

 

the default break down (one for OS and one for UA) is helpful, but it would be awesome to see what OSes are running which browsers…!

 

ideas welcome!

Hi,

I don't have a ready made solution for that. In fact, OS and user agent data are both extracted from the user agent field of the log file. Here is a typical user agent as it appears in the log file:

"Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1;  SV1;  .NET CLR 1.1.4325;  .NET CLR 2.0.50727;  .NET CLR 3.0.04506.648)"

One could create an extra section that will select all user agents that contain the word "Windows" and that will show the complete user agent string.

I am aware this is far from perfect, but it would be a valid first approach.
