Hi,

I've been using awstats for several years on a machine, and I recently reinstalled a new system on this machine.
awstats update is very slow, (far worse than a nice 20 slow)

here are some lines from a ./awstats.pl -update -showsteps :

Phase 1 : First bypass old records, searching new record…
Direct access after last parsed record (after line 737547)
8192 lines processed (87000 ms, 94 lines/second)
16384 lines processed (158000 ms, 103 lines/second)
that sounds like a lot of time only to count carriage returns =)
anyone has a clue ?

Hi,

What do you mean by "a lot of time only to count carriage returns " ? I guess AWStats does a lot more than that after line 737547.

There can be many reasons why your AWStats setup is slow. Hard to say from here.

If you use

DNSLookup=1

consider using

DNSLookup=0

This could significantly impact speed.

thank you for your answer,

and "oh my god" you were right.

I didn't even bothered doing that for a very simple reason :

I tought "phase 1" was supposed to "bypass old records" so I didn't bother trying. it was ok before, it must obviously be a dns configuration problem totally non related to awstats, as it worked like a charm before reinstalling the whole server.

and my problem is that my old resolv.conf is exactly like the new one, but this problem is beyond the scope of this forum.
